Visitors from Texas

My daughter and son in law visited me this weekend from Red Oak Texas. We had a great time even though it was a short visit (Thursday night to Monday noon). They had a wedding to go to but I still got to see them and talk.

Adventures in Moving

Well, the last few weeks have flown by.

Believe it or not, I've sold my house and bought a new one, moved, and am settling in all at the same time. All in 16 days.

Karen, the super Real Estate Agent, found a buyer for my house just a day after I found my condo. I had found one other one, but it didn't allow pets, so I didn't accept their counter offer.

It became a moot point when my beloved Sammy became sick and had to be put to sleep. It was the hardest thing I've ever done. So, in the course of 2 1/2 years, I've lost 3 cats. I don't think I'm going to get another. It's just too hard when they go.

Adventures in house painting

I'm having my house painted by my cousin, a wonderful person who has all the creativity in the family. The only problem is that I had to empty the kitchen. Fortunately, Lorrie came over and helped me get everything out so Dee could go in and start tomorrow.

Dang... I'm gonna hurt tomorrow.

Paint chips

Who knew? The number of colors that qualify as slightly off white to the beige side are infinite. Do you want a yellow, blue or red undertint? or a combination for green, purple or orange? or the tones with a slight grey?

Jeepers. White is too white. Pure color is too dark or bright. Don't even suggest wallpaper.

I'm painting the inside of my house to get it ready to sell. It's long overdue, but we'll get there.

Fave blog

No, it's not my own.

It's John Scalzi's Whatever. He's a writer and blogger extraordinaire. Home to the famous Bacon Cat entry, it's a combination of Science Fiction, Life, and everything else.

You read it and laugh, and cry and shake your head in disbelief. The readers and their comments are as diversely entertaining as the blogger. Where else can you find links to a Binary Translator, awesome astronomy pictures, or just other writers?

Cold. Cold. COLD!

It's cold out. 5 degrees which means that the car is cranky to start, it's hard to breathe, and MUD (Metropolitan Utility District) is celebrating the gas usage. The sky is a brilliant blue and the air has a crisp tang to it.

My daughter and I have a joke about how cold it is. It seems that I was hanging onto a green coat that I inherited from her for far too long. So, she bought me a black coat that was so warm that I can only wear it when the temp gets down to the teens. The green coat stayed.

Fast forward a couple of years. She moved to Dallas and found an awesome red coat at a rediculously low price, so she bought it for me. It's actually a long jacket that serves when the temp is 20 or above. So, when I want to tell her what the weather's like, I tell her that it's a black or red coat day.

BTW The green coat is still in the closet, and has survived several closet cleanings. What can I say? It whimpers whenever I try to send it to the Goodwill. It's a warm, clean the walks, do outside winter chores type coat. And I love it.

I noticed the flag button and pushed it. Oooops..... I pushed it again and the flag went off, I hope.
